The lid has a glass reinforced nylon handle with a built in lid thermometer. The fuel door is now larger than before and is constructed from aluminum. The lever handle is spring loaded and easy to securely close. 

There are two vents which are also made from aluminum and help to control the air flow throughout the smoking process. As well the vents allow you to control the temperature and moisture levels. Resulting in perfectly smoked meats each time you use the cooker.

The Smokey Mountain Cooker comes in two sizes 18.5 and 22.5 inches respectively. Even the smaller size is capable of smoking huge cuts of meat and is perfect for an average size family. If you tend to hold smoking parties or large get togethers you may want to move up to the larger model. The extra 4 inches that it provides allows you to easily cook larger turkeys or big amounts of ribs.
