Americans Need to Step Up to the Plate and Learn Spanish Today
Learning Spanish is becoming the fastest growing language trend in terms of numbers of students and its search popularity on the internet, the reason for this is simple, please allow me to explain;
The Spanish speaking world has grown greatly over the past four decades not only in number but also in area; the US for example now has the fifth largest Spanish speaking population in the world, yet still does not recognize Spanish as an official language.
The mother country, Spain has become an economic power in its own right having moved on since the end of Franco’s days in the 70′s and now has a greater GNP than Russia, India or Canada. It is unbelievable to think that the English speaking world has not really tapped into this Spanish speaking market with any great vigor as yet, but that might be changing..
Unless you have been stuck down a mineshaft for the last 12 months or have just awaken from a coma you should be aware of the economic turmoil the world is currently in the midst of. This financial meltdown hasn’t JUST affected the English speaking world but it has certainly had the greater impact upon countries like the US and the UK.
The smarter companies have now started investing in Spanish language training for their staff as the Spanish speaking consumer is being seen as the savior to this crisis and this need for bi-lingual speakers has opened up new opportunities in an employment market that has been void of good news for some time with job losses being reported on a daily basis it seems.
So my advice to you is to speak to your employer, see if they offer help with the cost of language training or if they are looking at recruiting to enter Spanish markets you may be pleasantly surprised with their answer.
Even if this isn’t an option open to you, learning Spanish is still easy enough to do under your own steam, and the easiest and most cost effective way to do so is by using a good interactive online course, which are easy enough to source on the internet.
So, to conclude:
1. Companies are beginning to wake up and realize that there are millions of potential customers out there that they’ve simply ignored because they were concentrating solely on an English speaking consumer.
2. Many companies have concentrated their dealings with fellow English speaking or highly developed countries and have not looked into trading with Spanish or Latin American companies.
3. Increased job opportunities both at home and abroad through linguistic training
I’m sure this list could keep growing with the reasons why Americans (and English speakers in general) need to learn Spanish, but it will stop at these three for now.
So, there you have it, you may now understand why certain high profile individuals, (mentioning no names, Mr. President) have verbally gesticulated recently about the need to learn Spanish so, don’t make excuses and don’t wait…Americans, step up to the plate and start to learn Spanish today.
