Review Of The Q120 Portable Gas Barbeque From Weber
The Weber Q120 portable gas barbeque is an upgrade on the Q100. It’s in many respects the same, but with improvements to appearance, the ignition system and the work tables it now features.
It’s fantastic for just taking out and about with you. Use it at home on the patio, and you can just put it away on a shelf when you’ve finished. But it comes into its own when taken out and about on picnics, camping or to the beach.
There are many advantages to a gas barbeque. Anyone who has carried a barbeque and charcoal to and from the beach will understand that a portable gas grill is the ideal solution. And there’s no need to wait an hour or more before it’s ready to use. Gas grills heat up extremely quickly.
Some may say that cooking on a gas barbeque won’t give you the taste of charcoal on the food. Others disagree, and anyway the convenience can far outweigh the difference in taste.
The Weber Q 120 is manufactured in cast aluminium, so it’s light. It’s finished in a stylish satin black. The frame is sturdy glass-reinforced nylon, which is heat resistant.Carrying is easy with the built in handles.
The design is very compact, but the grilling area is still big enough for six reasonable size burgers or steaks. Having said that, the Q120 is not intended for feeding the five thousand! But for a portable backup to your main barbeque, or to take out-and-about, it’s ideal.
It’s designed to be very user-friendly. The stainless steel burners are lit by electronic ignition, are infinitely controllable and heat up quickly. Cleaning should be easy, as the drip tray is removable and the cast iron cooking grate is enamelled to minimise sticking. The grill is fitted with two work tables, one either side, with built-in tool holders.
Gas is supplied from 450g gas canisters. How long these will last will depend on how you cook, so it’s difficult to predict. The barbeque will work much quicker and be far more economical on gas if you keep the lid closed. An option, if you want to use a large gas cylinder, is to buy the adaptor kit. This would make it easy and more economical to hook up your grill to a caravan.
