Webber Grill : The Ultimate Convenience!

Barbecue grills are a part of American life as the celebrations of July 4 and apple pie, however there was a time when it wasn’t the case. Webber grills weren’t always the best of the best of the barbecue world.

The products of Weber Stephens were begun in Palatine Illinois in the late 1800s. This company was an industry of sheet metal that did lots of custom work in the area of Chicago. In 1950, the company co-owner George Stephen turned into frustrated by the unequal cooking and out of control flame of the open brazier grills. He decided to create a better grill for his personal backyard.

The company that he has worked for and owned had been building half-spheres that were welded together to form buoys which were used in Lake Michigan. Using the idea, he cuts one of the buoys in half and then built a dome-shaped lid with a handle cover. It might be the first of the kettle Webber Grills.

The reputation of the Webber grill parts took off faster than Stephens had anticipated and the units were selling quicker than he could build them. In 1952, he created the Webber Grills division of the company to supply the ever-increasing demand.

Some years later Stephens bought the company from the Webber brothers and become the single owner at that time, he modified the name to Webber Stephen Product Co.

For the next two decades, the reputation of Webber grill and sales continued to get bigger. By 70‘s Webber Grills had spread from a simple product to a national Midwest. Retail stores from all-around the country started selling the grills. Shortly, the name of Webber was a common term for barbecue grill.

Today Webber grill still holds a special place in the hearts of grillers everywhere. Though the kettle was, the first model grill time and technology have allowed the company to expand a bit. You can now purchase these grills in all sorts of shapes, sizes and fuel types.

In recent years, the interesting side business began to develop from Webber grills that are the Webber Grill Restaurant. Wheeling Illinois, built the first of the restaurants with three other arise in cities around the state. In 2007, the franchise has left the Illinois State with a grill being opened in Indianapolis.

The Webber Grills are a family business committed to quality products that is proved by the satisfaction of consumer as well as the long life of the company.

It appeared the Wolverines’ had a controlled lead of 67 – 63 with 4:32 remaining; but that was to change in one of the most exhilarating and peculiar finishes in tournament history. The pulse of the game changed entirely after a 3-pointer by North Carolina’s Donald Williams- a missed shot by Michigan’s Jalen Rose- and then Derrick’s Phelps’ lay-up putting the Tar Heels in the lead. Shocked and confused by the turnaround and the noise of the screaming crowd- Michigan’s Webber attempts to call a time out in the remaining 11 seconds of the game. However- Michigan had no time outs left- resulting in a technical foul. Donald Williams- named Most Outstanding Player- makes both shots for the Tar Heels from the line and Carolina also gains possession. Williams is fouled- and sinks the next two- clinching the win for Carolina.

Excerpt: Fab Five was the nickname for a 1991 University of Michigan men’s basketball team recruitment class that is considered to by some to be “the greatest class ever recruited.” They were: Chris Webber , Jalen Rose , Juwan Howard , Jimmy King , Ray Jackson . Originally, the players rebelled against the monicker and attempted to give themselves the nickname Five Times’ ( written 5X’s). As high school players all five members of the Fab Five were rated in the top 100 of high school prospects in 1991. Chris Webber was ranked #1, Juwan Howard was ranked #3, Jalen Rose was ranked #6, Jimmy King was ranked #9, and Ray Jackson was ranked #84. All but Jackson participated in the McDonald’s All American game in 1991. As collegians, they became pioneers in bringing “hip hop flavor” to the game with their trash talk, long baggy shorts, shaved heads, black shoes, and black socks. Their controversial antics on the court garnered much attention from the media. In the elite eight round of the 1992 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament, Michigan earned a rematch against a Jimmy Jackson -led Ohio State Buckeyes team that had beaten them twice during the regular season by double digits. Michigan won the rematch as all but two Wolverines points were scored by the Fab Five. Despite their talent, they never won a championship. They reached the NCAA championship game as freshmen in 1992 and again as sophomores in 1993. They lost to Duke 7151 in the 1992 title game and lost 7771 to North Carolina in 1993, a game which is remembered mostly for Chris Webber’s costly “timeout”, which resulted in a technical foul because Michigan did not have one remaining.
