Can anybodody tell tell me please if ‘usefull’ kitchenware is art?

I frequent garage sales and flea markets to find out, but as yet came across ‘openminded’ people only, who run from every culture.
Excuse the deliberate spelling errors, I am paraphrasing while reading the Guardian, the Times and my girlfriends eyes at the same time.I love being this intelli-git.

I like to see the blood of bloody minded idiots tastefully smeared around my kitchen. The sharper the knife, the more artistic I can be.
Perhaps I may even open his mind…

Ideas that sell: today’s most effective and original ads The world’s sharpest creative minds are in high demand in the advertising world, because making effective ads takes a whole lot more than just marketing know-how. A great ad grabs the viewer’s attention and gets the point across in an original, surprising, funny, touching, or even shocking way. Because ads reflect global and regional mentalities, studying them is interesting not only for their selling points but also for what they have to say about their clients and target audiences. This mega-roundup of the world’s best contemporary advertisements highlights the work of designers in over 40 countries. Organized by subjects, such as socio-political, food and beverage, cars, technology, and media, the ads are dated and annotated with information on the design agencies, clients, and products. Also included are case studies illustrating, for example, how an ad campaign can be made on a small budget or how an advertisement can be adapted for different cultures. This guide is a must-have for advertising students and professionals, graphic designers, and anyone who’s interested in the different ways products are advertised around the world.

 Circling Dixie

Circling Dixie

$2.36

“We all knew the British were fascinated with the tragic, gothic American South. This remarkable book not only documents the degree of that fascination, but also demonstrates the deep interconnectedness of two cultures. Here is an irresistable new case study for those interested in the form and function of hybridity.”–Jane Gaines, program in film and video, Duke University “The author’s research on the way Southern themes and icons have slipped into everyday life across the Atlantic is impressive. There is no doubt that Circling Dixie will find a sophisticated audience both in the United States and in Europe.”–Linda Wagner-Martin, author of “Favored Strangers”: Gertrude Stein and Her Family For Europeans looking across the Atlantic, American culture is often the site of desire, fascination, and envy. In Britain, the rich culture of the American South has made a particularly strong impact. Helen Taylor explores the ways in which contemporary Southern culture has been enthusiastically produced and reproduced in a British context. Taylor examines some of the South’s most significant cultural exports in discussions that range across literature, music, film, television, theater, advertising, and tourism to focus on how and why Southern themes and icons have become so deeply embedded in British cultural life. The enduring legacy of Margaret Mitchell’s Gone With the Wind can be seen today in the popularity of sequels, revisions, and reworkings of the novel. The conversation between cultures is further explored in British responses to Alex Hayley’s Roots, the British theater’s special affection for Tennessee Williams’s plays, and the marketing of New Orleans as a preferred destination for European tourists. The transformation of Southern culture–itself a hybrid of European, African, and American–as it circulates back across the Atlantic suggests not only new views of the history, racial politics, music, and art of both Britain and the American South, but

For additional materials, please contact the author directly: www.mariekedemooij.com Marieke de Mooij shows that American theories of consumer behavior do not necessarily apply abroad. Her national consumption data are an unobtrusive measure of national cultures. She has made marketing students discover culture, and her work should make cross-cultural psychologists discover the consumer as an informant. –Geert Hofstede, Institute for Research on Intercultural Cooperation, the Netherlands Consumers worldwide are not the same, and the differences in consumer behavior between countries are increasing. Because all aspects of consumer behavior are culture-bound, and not subject merely to environmental factors but integrated in all of human behavior, there is an increased need to identify and understand this integration and its impact on global marketing and advertising. Consumer Behavior and Culture: Consequences for Global Marketing and Advertising is the first book to present an empirically based model for integrating culture with consumer behavior. Consumer Behavior and Culture reviews the myths of global marketing, and explores the concept of culture and models of culture. It provides empirical evidence of convergence and divergence in consumer behavior and covers various psychological and sociological aspects of human behavior used for explaining consumer behavior. The book reviews and discusses cultural variations of these aspects across the world. Key Features: * A cultural exploration of the various psychological and sociological aspects of human behavior, such as concept of self, personality, group influence, motivation, emotion, perception, andinformation processing * A discussion of consumer behavior theories and cultural variations from around the world * Coverage of a number of consumer behavior domains, including explanations of differences in consumption and ownership, all based on empirical evidence * In addition to anec

Geographies of Commodity Chains

Individuals, consumer groups, nation states and supra-national bodies increasingly have interrogated the ethics of particular production and consumption relations such as GM foods. Flowing from and bound up with these political concerns is the growing interest in the mutual dependence of sites of (for example) production, distribution, retailing, design, advertising, marketing and final consumption. This timely volume draws together contributions concerned with the production, circulation and consumption of commodities. Not only do these case study examples seek to transcend older understandings of production and consumption, but they also explicitly tap into wider public debate about the meanings, origins and biographies of commodities.Taking a geographical approach to the analysis of links between producers and consumers, the book focuses upon the ways in which these ties increasingly are stretched across spaces and places. Critical engagements with the ways in which these spaces and places affect the economies, cultures and politics of the connections between producers and consumers are skilfully threaded through each section.

 Global Brand Strategy

Global Brand Strategy

$27.5

Mr van Gelder’s book is a triumph – truly a ‘bible’ for anyone in the business of creating or managing international brands. It manages to cover most of the existing ground without being in the least tedious, and proposes a great many innovative yet eminently sensible new structures and tools for making the whole process far less opaque than ever before. Global Brand Strategy is surely the definitive new work on the subject, and should be considered obligatory reading for academics and practitioners alike. — Simon Anholt, Chairman, Earthspeak and author of Brand New Justice Sicco van Gelder places many of marketing’s theories into a brand context, where they should be, for brands interface between the consumer and the corporation. His analyses are accurate and enlightening explained in a clear, concise fashion without being unduly simplified for advanced marketers. While there are now an increasing number of books on global business with global examples, Mr van Gelder bases Global Brand Strategy on first-hand experience and in-depth examples, going beyond many other authors in branding and marketing. — Jack Yan, CEO, Jack Yan & Associates I enjoyed reading the book – in particular I liked the Far Eastern examples; such a refreshing change from the normal cases you read about. — Nicholas Ind, author of Living the Brand Brand managers operating across cultures can find themselves facing a multitude of complex issues. Aiming to clarify this situation, Global Brand Strategy is the first book to provide a rigorous analytical framework that can be used comparatively across markets to reveal the factors that are most significant to particular types of brands. Contents include brandenvironment; brand expression; brand domain; brand reputation; brand affinity; brand recognition; local brand management; and global brand management.
