Internet TV — Different Gadgets and Applications At Work

Throughout the years, watching different shows have been related to the television.  However, the Internet technology now makes it possible to watch television online through Internet TV.  This is a good way for people who are still working to catch up with the shows they like to watch or be updated with the most recent news without even logging off from their computers.

 However, Internet TV works with assistance from different technologies.  All of these technologies work together in order to enable people to watch their favorite shows online for convenience.  The following are some of the gadgets or applications used in order to make online watching of TV shows possible.

 Primarily, Internet connection is the heart and soul of being able to watch online television shows.  The shows were saved as video file formats so that means they are also files with their own measurements or sizes.  That means that there are some bytes to be transferred as you watch them online.  Internet connection will make it possible for data transfer so you can watch the show on your own computer.  The connection speed will also determine whether you’ll be able to watch the show continuously or not.  Slow Internet connections will need you to pause or buffer the video first for several minutes before you can watch a show continuously.  Basically, what others do is watch the first parts of the video while you let the other parts load.

 The next gadget used in Internet TV is a set-top box.  A set-top box is the main part that will get the broadcast reception used for high-speed digital television.  This is a separate box that is responsible in “tuning” the channels you want to watch.  This set-top box can be obtained in the market either from computer manufacturers or other providers.  Configuring the set-top box will depend on the multimedia application installed on the computer, like Windows Media Center in Microsoft Windows.

 Instead of using set-top box and multimedia software, you also have an option to watch Internet TV through websites.  However, you may be asked to install several plug-ins or flash players in order to watch the shows that you want.  These applications will embed clips on the site and offer you the controls that you need, like virtual buttons.  You’ll know when you don’t need plug-ins or a flash player installation when you can load and play the video.  This occurs since some of these plug-ins are included with your operating system already.

 Finally, Internet browsing is now possible through phones, thus giving way to watching TV through these portable gadgets.  Just like in watching these television shows on websites, you also need to have a good platform or application to support the technology on a smaller gadget like your mobile phone, and high-end music players installed, too.

 Internet TV is a product of different technologies supporting each other to help you watch television online.  By understanding how they work, you’ll also have an idea on how to do basic troubleshooting when you’re not able to watch properly due to some plug-in problems or improper configuration on your PC application.
