DSL internet splitter?
i have 2 pc’s and i want to have my friend to come over so we can play the same game together. i think it would be cool. so i have DSL high speed and i have a problem. how do i split it? do i just apply a splitter to the dsl slot and put another internet hookup in the empty slot???
Router??? Splitter???
Your modem is working so just put a switch behind the modem. Your network will go from modem to switch to the computers connected to the switch.
The switch doesn’t require configuration. It simply allows multiple computers to access one network connection. You could buy a router, but why deal with the configuration when you can simply put a switch there instead.
With DSL, you’re using PPPOE, so that means you’ll have to bridge your modem (some modems are easier than others), then you have to configure PPPOE on the router. And, If the router is wireless and you’re not using wireless, then you have to ensure that the wireless is disabled.
OR…
You can just put a switch in instead. Problem solved…network up and running…that easy.
Plus, switches are not as expensive as routers. If you need a router, then by all means buy one. But if you just want multiple computer access to the internet, then go with a switch every time.
