Need a security cam solution using outdoor camera with Wi-Fi SD card?

I live in a gated community. Somebody keeps vandalizing the gates. I want to catch them on camera. My idea is to use a self-contained, battery powered camera, for example an outdoor trail camera like this one: http://tinyurl.com/yfbsueo. I plan to put a Wi-Fi SD card in it and configure it so it will automatically send pictures to an internet server using a neighbor’s wireless network. And because it needs to be mounted by the gates on common property, I will need to secure it in some kind of electronics enclosure bolted onto a wall.

Bunch of options here, but I’m going to run with the solution you provided. If the neighbor has wireless that is reliable enough to send images, you can go with a number of cameras. A good solution is to call the local Graybar in your area and ask for the security sales. They will be able to help you in a few ways…choosing the camera, and in many instances, the camera will come in a secure housing since their use is an outdoor camera, so dont buy a camera AND a housing. Secondly, depending on the distance of the camera to the gate, buy an IR or InfraRed camera for night time functioning so you can see the little bastards in the act. The other option is black and white…this is a good option as well and may save you a few bucks over IR. Make sure when you find a camera you like, get an IP camera if you want to view the camera from ANY internet connection (home, work, airport etc) or an analog camera if you only want to view it from where THAT wireless is set up. You could expect to pay 300-500 for an IP InfreRed camera or 90-200 for a good analog camera with IR. Naturally the price goes up with the options…some of these cams can be up to 1500 a piece!
