How to set up cable internet for a notebook first time?

Hi everyone!
i have a problem, how to set up internet for a first time use, i recently installed windows 7 and installed many drivers on my new notebook and when i plug in network cable it only shows wireless networks available and says ”no devices connected” what should i do ? The internet works on my old PC so its not the cable problem
Can you tell me step by step how to fix this problem?
