internet gaming law
Is there a law against using xbox and ps2 conoles for pay for play?

I am starting a business that assists students with homework, provide internet access and video games by way of consoles. I know of persons in the gaming business who have modified their consoles and burnt the games, none of which i have done. But is it really an offense to offer original games on a pay for play system?

There is no law against it directly, as there are several of these places showing up in malls.

The main thing you have to worry about is any licensing issues from the game company. In the Retail copy they sell they usually have a provision that you can not do that do what you are trying to do. However, they sell commercial copies that have this license. But because it is a commerical license a $60 game might run you $240 as an estimate. Depending on how you do the payment it could take quite a while to make up for that difference.

Gambling, once widely outlawed, is today a regulated, taxed activity that is legal in some form in all but two states. State governments have the main responsibility for overseeing gambling, but Congress historically has played a significant role in shaping the industry. Congressional actions include 1960s-era anti-racketeering laws, a 1988 statute setting policy for Indian gaming, and a 1992 law …

Familiarity with the elaborate regulatory processes of gaming is critical. As states look increasingly to gambling as a revenue source, the legal dimensions of gambling will expand. Because lawyers will continue to serve in a variety of roles related to gaming?advocacy, regulatory, and policy-making?students need to gain an awareness of the basics of gaming law. This casebook will develop both the practical and the policy bases of gaming. Gaming law provides unique opportunities to explore how politics, economics, social policy, religion, and mathematics can and do impact fundamental aspects of the law. This text emphasizes those parts of gaming law having the greatest national interest and impact: casinos, tribal gaming, sports and poker betting, and the continuing development of the way gaming interacts with the Internet. Lotteries, pari-mutuel, charitable, and shipboard issues also receive coverage. The book gives significant attention to the ethical issues faced by a gaming attorney. Besides presenting the leading and other illustrative cases in these areas, the text has extensive connecting note material and primary materials, like statutes and regulations.

The Law of Defamation and The Internet by Collins, Matthew Edition , 3

The Law of Defamation and The Internet by Collins, Matthew Edition , 3

$106.99

The Internet has revolutionized the way in which we communicate. We take instantaneous, affordable, global communication for granted. With the remarkable benefits the Internet confers, however, come concomitant dangers and abuse. The Internet is, at the same time, a bulwark for global freedom of expression, and a medium of potentially limitless international defamation. The once sharp lines between the old and new media are blurring faster than could have been imagined a few short years ago. Television, radio, telecommunications, and the print media are increasingly delivered via Internet protocols. Mobile telephones, laptop computers, and the new generation of handheld devices provide always-on Internet access. The Internet is converging with, or displacing to a greater or lesser degree, and at an incredible pace, every other form of communication. The law of defamation and the Internet has thus become, in a very real sense, the modern law of defamation. The original edition of The Law of Defamation and the Internet (2001) was the first text to analyze comprehensively the application of common law principles of defamation law to material published online. It quickly became the standard text for media and information technology practitioners and students seeking to understand this novel area of the law, a fact cemented by the second edition (2005). The book has been widely cited and attracted praise throughout the common law world for its clarity and practical approach; its thorough treatment of the law; its use of international comparative material; and its analysis of relevant principles of jurisdiction and choice of law. The third edition takes The Law of Defamation and the Internet to a new level. As well as comprehensively updating the burgeoning law in the field, the coverage of general principles of defamation law has been significantly expanded. The research base has been widened to include more extensive coverage of authorities from jurisdictions including Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore. Other new features include expanded coverage of American law and an appendix of significant damages verdicts in Internet defamation actions. The new edition is an indispensable resource for all practitioners and students of defamation law.

The adoption of electronic commercial transactions has facilitated cross-border trade and business, but the complexity of determining the place of business and other connecting factors in cyberspace has challenged existing private international law. This comparison of the rules of internet jurisdiction and choice of law as well as online dispute resolution (ODR) covers both B2B and B2C contracts in the EU, USA and China. It highlights the achievement of the Rome I Regulation in the EU, evaluates the merits of the Hague Convention on Choice of Court Agreement at the international level and gives an insight into the current developments in CIDIP. The in-depth research allows for solutions to be proposed relating to the problems of the legal uncertainty of internet conflict of law and the validity and enforceability of ODR agreements and decisions.
