Difference between a receptacle and socket?

This question is connected with electrical items. One of my client is asking for a duplex receptacle. Is it the same as a socket. I browsed over the internet. But receptacle is shown as a square triangular type socket and has American specification. Is it the sockets we use in our homes.

Basically what they are asking for is that you set “it” up to allow for NEMA AC power plugs which is the power socket standard in the USA and Canada. So whatever it is your making the client has asked you to ensure you are able to use it and connect it to power sources in the US.
