A Review Of The Mitsubishi WD-60638 3D TV, A Great Entry Level 3D Capable TV
Several categories exist in the 3D HDTV market, and in many cases it can be a difficult task to classify a given display. Despite the sixty inch screen, the Mitsubishi WD-60638 falls into the entry level category. The Mitsubishi WD-60638 is a DLP television that is 3D capable and features a 60 Hz refresh rate. Since the unit is produced with DLP technology, it is susceptible to typical failures associated with traditional projection televisions including bulb failure and board malfunctions. Of course, the most noticeable different between this unit and an LED-LCD or LED is the size, as this Mitsubishi is nearly sixteen inches thick. Therefore, it requires a fair amount of space compared to true flat screen televisions.
The main appeal of the Mitsubishi WD-60638 is the large screen and lower price. While the unit is capable of producing crisp three dimension effects when paired with 3D glasses and 3D enabled Blu-Ray player, anyone who has viewed similar effects on higher priced televisions will likely notice the difference the 60hz refresh rate makes versus higher rates like 120hz and 240hz. While the picture is good, it is not necessary great. Of course, that fact makes shelling out close to $400 for a Mitsubishi 3DC-1000 3D starter kit which includes two pairs of glasses a little on the overpriced side. Again, though users testing the waters of the three dimensional market will be able to appreciate this television. This is still a 1080p television that produces stunning standard high-definition visuals.
The Mitsubishi WD-60638 comes with a variety of inputs including: three HDMI ports, two combined component/composite video ports, and an RF input for standard television. The combined composite/component inputs are an interesting approach, but largely unnecessary as the amount of HDMI inputs keeps connecting all video components fairly simple. A further drawback or benefit, depending largely on buyers demands, is the absence of an Ethernet port or wireless internet capabilities, which means streaming of any internet content will have to be accomplished via attached devices or gaming consoles.
This particular Mitsubishi 3D TV is a great starter television for anyone peeking into the 3D market, but should provide enough screen space for gaming. The sixty inch screen and average refresh rate supports all the high-definition next generation gaming consoles. Plus, the lower purchase price makes this an excellent television for game rooms. However, buyers should double check viewing angles of this particular set to be sure it is viewable from all areas of the room prior to purchase.

What’s the Matter with the Internet? by Poster, Mark Edition , 0 $25.99 In What’s the Matter with the Internet?, leading cultural theorist Mark Poster offers a sophisticated and astute assessment of the potential the new medium has to redefine culture and politics. Avoiding the mindless hype and meaningless jargon that has characterized much of the debate about the future of the Web, he details what truly distinguishes the Internet from other media and the implications these novel properties have for such vital issues as authorship, national identity and global citizenship, the fate of ethnicity and race, and democracy.Arguing that the Internet demands a social and cultural theory appropriate to the specific qualities of cyberspace, Poster reformulates the ideas of thinkers associated with our understanding of post-modern culture and the media (including Foucault, Deleuze, Heidegger, Baudrillard, and Derrida) to account for and illuminate the virtual world, paying particular attention to its political dimensions and the nature of identity. In this innovative analysis, Poster acknowledges that although the colonization of the Internet by corporations and governments does threaten to retard its capacity to bring about genuine change, the new medium is still capable of transforming both contemporary social practices and the way we see the world and ourselves. |
