How Does a Web Filter Protect you From Internet Addiction?
The Internet is filled with so much good content, fun things to watch, educational web sites, news and much more. For most people, it is a great help in saving time, learning and keeping in touch with family and friends. However, there can be a downside to the Internet and it is important to understand the risks and dangers. One of the unexpected results of the rapid integration of the Internet into daily life, is that many people are developing an emotional dependency on using the Internet.
What is Internet Addiction?
The Internet has so many uses today, it is easy to mask frequent use as being completely legitimate. You need it for school, for work, to check the weather, to read the news, to talk to co-workers, to send pictures to friends, to organize a party. In fact, there are people who are on the Internet all day – spending more time online than they are NOT online, but they are not necessarily addicted.
Internet Addiction is when the person meets certain criteria which indicate there is an actual disorder: Preoccupation with the Internet, the need to be online increases over time, a feeling of not being in control and an inability to stop using the Internet, feeling restless or anxious when not online, staying online for periods of time that are longer than actually intended, being online starts to take priority over other activities like being with friends or family or spending time online instead of working or studying, for example.
These are just some of the indicators used to determine if someone as an actual addiction to being online.
How Can a Web Filter Help?
No matter how old you are, what you do in your life and what you think about the Internet, a web filter can protect you against developing an online addiction. While some people are more susceptible to developing an Internet addiction than others, anyone who is using the Internet frequently is at some risk of becoming dependent.
It is already understood that certain types of Internet content and activities are more likely than others to lead to addiction or problematic use. The prevalance and easy access to Internet pornography has led to a tremendous surge in the number of people who are exposed to pornography and to overall porn addiction problems. The same is true for gambling and other potentially problematic activities like online dating and chat. In addition, the younger someone is when they are exposed to these activitis and content, the more likely they are to develop a compulsive disorder.
With a web filter in place, an individual can set very clear limits in how the Internet is used in their home or office. A web filter can be set to block certain content, specific sites or even specific words, for example. Further, with a web filter installed on a computer, it is possible to set a schedule for Internet use so that it can not be accessed 24/7.
Anyone who feels that they may be spending too much time online who is unable to enforce
limits on their own can set a schedule that meets their needs. For example, many parents report problems with teens who stay up late at night during the week to chat with friends or play games online. Setting the filter to close the Internet at 11PM, could be one way of handling a habit that is potentially addicting and can harm the teen’s health and school performance.
In general, using technology to manage and set limits can be an efficient and smart way to prevent problems of Internet Addiction. Install a web filter in each device you use for accessing the Internet and prevent the problem before it becomes a problem.

Addiction Proof Your Child by Peele, Stanton Edition , 1 $18.99 THE PROBLEM IS ADDICTION, NOT DRUGSPeople become addicted to experiences that protect them from life challenges they can’t deal with. It is not possible to say that any one thing causes addiction. Most kids who use drugs and alcohol don’t become addicted to them. On the other hand, they can get addicted to very typical, common activities–such as eating, the Internet, other media, games, even medications they are prescribed for other problems. The core of an addiction is that people become enmeshed in an activity that interferes with their functioning and, for children, thwarts their growth. If your children avoid regular involvements and experiences, if they can’t cope with their lives, and if you fear that, left to their own devices, they will either collapse or go haywire, your children face addictive problems.Disagreements about the nature of addiction make for vast differences in how we go about combating it. I do not find it helpful to regard addiction as a disease, which is the prevalent view these days. Although many people, including scientists, now believe that a wide range of things can be addictive, they wrongly persist in seeing addiction as a biological phenomenon beyond people’s control.By contrast, I was one of the first proponents of the view that addiction is not limited to drugs. But its very universality makes it clear that addiction can’t be traced to a specific neurological mechanism. If sex or gambling addictions are defined by changes in the brain, why do so many people who find these involvements alluring for a moment, or even enthralling for some time, then simply move on to other activities? As we shall see, the exact same thing is true of "addictive" drugs.Addiction can be especially debilitating for the young, but young people are more likely than not to outgrow it. The way out of addiction is to develop a range of skills and engage fully in life. The disease mythology is particularly unhelpful for young people. Telling adolescents that they have inherited addiction as part of their biological makeup encourages them to get stuck in the problem, rather than motivating them to overcome it.Although my view of addiction is not the conventional one, my way of thinking has been adopted by many and is gaining influence in the field. My approach includes recognizing that addiction is not limited to drugs, that people overcome addiction when they are motivated and when their lives improve, and that successful therapy for addiction builds on people’s own motivation to change while teaching them better ways of coping.DEFINING ADDICTIONAt the same time that not all drug use is addictive, addiction does not have to involve drugs. People can become addicted to powerful experiences such as sex, love, gambling, shopping, food–indeed, any experience that can absorb their feelings and consciousness. Addiction to the Internet is now in the spotlight, and before that came addiction to television and then video games.Addictions |

Addiction Medicine by Johnson, Bankole A. Edition ILL, 1 $118.99 The spectrum of addiction disorders presents practitioners with numerous challenges—among them the widening gap between a growing evidence base and the translation of this knowledge into treatment outcomes. Addiction Medicine addresses this disconnect, clearly explaining the role of brain function in drug taking and other habit-forming behaviors, and applying this biobehavioral framework to the delivery of evidence-based treatment. Its state-of-the-art coverage provides clinically relevant details on not only traditional sources of addiction such as cocaine, opiates, and alcohol, but also more recently recognized substances of abuse (e.g., steroids, inhalants) as well as behavioral addictions (e.g., binge eating, compulsive gambling, hoarding). Current behavioral and medical therapies are discussed in depth, and the book’s close attention to social context gives readers an added lens for personalizing treatment. An international panel of expert contributors offers the most up-to-date information on:• Diagnosis and classification. • Neurobiological and molecular theories of addiction• Behavioral concepts of addiction• Clinical aspects of addiction to a wide range of substances, including opiates, stimulants, sedatives, hallucinogens, alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine • Science-based treatment options: pharmacotherapy, pharmacogenetics, potential vaccines, brief and compliance-enhancing interventions, cognitive behavioral treatment, behavioral management, and other psychosocial interventions• Behavioral addictions—including compulsive eating, Internet messaging, and hypersexuality—and their treatment• Addiction in specific populations, including adolescents, the elderly, pregnant women, and health care professionals• Legal, disability, and rehabilitation issuesAt once comprehensive and integrative, Addiction Medicine is an essential text and a practice-expanding tool for psychiatrists, health psychologists, pharmacologists, social workers, drug counselors, trainees, and general physicians/family practitioners. |

This Addiction $209 Det var 11 år sedan Alkaline Trio släppte sitt första album “Goddamnit.” På detta, sitt 7.e, de har gått tillbaka mer till sina rötter, Straight punk med mycket melodier och bra produktion.”This record is a rock record but our punk rock upbringing definitely shines through, more so than our last few records,” singer/guitarist Matt Skiba tells Spinner. “The vibe is similar to our humble beginnings. It's a step forward but I also think it has glimmers of our past in it. We went with a less-is-more approach on this record. A lot of it is just one guitar rather than overdubs or three or four guitars,” he says. “We wanted a record that we could easily play live. For the most part, it's pretty bare bones while still sounding full and big.”Det är även den mest personliga skiva de gjort sedan debuten. Spåret “The American Scream” är en politisk sång säger Skiba.”For a long time we were afraid to write overtly political songs but I read this article about a US soldier that came back from a tour of duty in Afghanistan and blew his head off on his mother's grave and I wrote a song about that.” “We're really excited to get back on the road and see everybody. We've been playing some of these songs live but most of them nobody's heard so we're really excited,” he says. “We're very, very proud of the record and we hope that everybody digs it.” |
