A Car Salesman Terminated For Packers Tie Offered A New Career

The Packers Bears rivalry claimed another victim, as a Chicago vehicle salesman was fired for wearing a Green Bay Packers tie. John Stone wore the tie to work as a tribute to his late grandmother, a lifelong Green Bay fan. His boss fired him for sporting the tie. However, there’s a silver lining. The very next day, he was provided a brand new job. At least he got a career the next day, or he may have wound up living off of payday loans. Green Bay Packers tie gets car salesman driven out of work

January 24 was a Monday where John Stone went to work as a car salesman. Webb Chevrolet is the place that is in the Oak Lawn area of Chicago. The News Tribune explains that he wore a Green Bay Packers tie because his grandmother passed away and was a fan of Green Bay her whole life. Her funeral had been held that Friday and Stone wore the tie to commemorate her. Jerry Roberts is the general manager of Webb Chevrolet. Stone was told to remove his tie by this man. This was then ignored by Stone. He went to work again. Then, the tie was something Roberts asked Stone to remove again on the floor. Roberts terminated Stone after Stone refused to do so.

Getting calls for a brand new job

Many started to talk about the car salesman that got fired as a father of two. The Chicago Tribune accounts that this was mostly because of the Green Bay Packers tie part of the story. On Jan 25, Stone was put on “The Dan Patrick Show.” He was interviewed about it. Manager of anther Chicago area Chevrolet dealership, Guy Cesario, called in and offered a career at Chevrolet at Homewood to the man during the interview. Cesario said that firing someone “because of a tie is just idiotic.” In accordance with Stone, it’s shown that the nation “has my back” based off this.

Roberts didn’t know why Stone was sporting the tie. Stone did not inform him. Roberts said that after the Webb Chevrolet had spent a lot to sponsor the Bears the Packers beat in the National Football Conference Championship game the day before was why it was not okay to wear that tie.
