Can you get internet through the Comcast digital cable box via Ethernet?

I noticed an Ethernet port on the back of my cable box and want to retrieve internet through it. Can it be done?

First, you need to subscribe to Comcast’s internet service. Then you need a cable modem from them. They may be producing combo modem/tv set-tops now, but I’m not aware of one. It would certainly make sense though – one less box. But I suspect the ethernet port you have is for something else, maybe offloading content or networking multiple DVRs.
