Weber Smokey Mountain Grill

One of the most popular smokers around is the Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker. This cooker is actually a smoker which allows you to have that wonderful smokehouse flavour in your home cooked foods.  The Smokey Mountain Cooker comes in two sizes the 18.5 inch and the 22.5 inch. Both are capable of handling good quantities of food and it is recommended to pick the size according to how many people you will be cooking for and by how often you will be smoking foods. 

The Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker makes smoking foods a breeze. These smokers have been updated and are now preferred by many competition cooks. The reason for this is that the quality construction and new features make using and cleaning this cooker very simple indeed.

Both models of this cooker resemble a bullet shape and sit on a metal frame as opposed to wheels. The black color allows it to stand the test of time. The porcelain enamel finish prevents rusting and is weather resistant. Many people simply place their cooker on a concrete slab in their backyard. One of the newer features is a pan which catches the ash at the bottom of the cooker. Enabling clean up to be a cinch, if any ashes do spill they can simply be brushed off of the slab.

The 18.5 inch model weighs in at around 52 pounds which is 16 pounds lighter than the larger model at 22.5 inches. Both models come with two nickel plated grilling racks which allow you to cook large quantities of food. The nickel plating prevents rust from building up and you will find that you won’t have to replace these racks for a long time.

The large doors on both models make adding charcoal much easier. The handle is spring loaded with a lever type handle. This allows you to know if the door is locked securely. With older version this was sometimes a concern.

Choosing the correct size of smoker is a personal choice. The smaller cooker still has two racks and can easily hold a ham and a turkey. You will have no issues in cooking an entire meal in this cooker. However, if you find that you are constantly smoking lots of foods you may wish to purchase the larger cooker.  So much depends on your entertaining habits and how large your family is.

No matter which size you choose to go with you can easily purchase additional racks for cooking chickens in a vertical position. There are also special racks for ribs allowing you to cook more racks of ribs at one time.
